Dordrechts Museum

One of the oldest museums of the Netherlands founded in 1842.

The collection of the Dordrechts Museum comprises over 400 years of Dutch art, from masters from the Golden Age to today's art.

The collection consists of paintings from the Golden Age of Dordrecht painters, such as Jan de Baen, Aelbert Cuyp, Ferdinand Bol, Arent de Gelder, Samuel van Hoogstraten, Nicolaes Maes. Other big names represented in the museum are, among others, the brothers Abraham and Jacob Strij, Barend Cornelis Koekkoek, Jacob Maris and Jan Toorop.

The Dordrecht Museum has the largest collection of paintings in the world by Ary Scheffer, a Dordrecht born painter who at the time of Romanticism made his career in Paris. Ary Scheffer was one of the most asked for and highest paid artists of his time.
