Beam me up, Scotty. Take II

It's not that kind of action is back. We use a bakfiets+car batteries+laptop+wacom+projector and simply project sketches made in loco to the walls of Utrecht. After the successful action in front of "de Bastaard", we are now raising the bar by confronting Utrecht shopping center with yet another unsual action. Join us, bring a friend and show off your kung fu drawing skills.

Attendance:

• The number of participants was drastically smaller than in the previous event. Around 20 people have participated.
• The fact that it was approximately zero degrees outside and that there was sporadic rain could be pointed as one of the reasons for such low participation but marketing was undoubtedly a big problem.

Reactions and results

• Passing by people were again very positive and plead for more of this creative initiatives <a lady which introduced herself as a painter was totally enjoying her first time painting with a computer, specialy against a building wall>
• Shayne, Dirkjan and Lutsen introduced their home made short INTK videos (promissing series)
• There is 30 minutes film footage to be edited and processed. If you know someone who wants to do it just let us know (info[at]itsnotthatkind.org)

Learning points:

• Plead for self-organized marketing: Marketing is not working at INTK. The principles of self-organization are not being applied. It is important to understand that everybody should invite other friends. The friend-of-a-friend(FOAF) principle has not be put in practice. Coming alone to an INTK event should not be an option. When inviting your friends to an event make clear that they should bring their friends and spread the word. Remember: INTK is for action and pragmatism.
• Although it was made obviously last time that flyers are fundamental for INTK events, we did not manage to have them ready on time. We had 2,5 weeks to print flyers but we missed the deadline. Flyers are too important for being left to the responsibility of one person. INTK has several faces therefore should have several flyers. Remember: INTK is for action and pragmatism.
• After less than one hour projecting images, city agents have asked INTK to stop it. In The Netherlands public space does not exist as an arena for public non-profit spontaneous initiatives. For every initiative its necessary a permit and eventually a fee. We will ask for a permit for every INTK event in public space in advance and document the process. Remember: INTK is for action and pragmatism.

Future:

• Shayne has researched mobile energy. It will cost around 400 euros to have 300 Watts of mobile rechargeable energy (battery, recharger, inverter).
• Shayne is also researching into more mobile forms of showing video.
• Involve VJ or film producer for footage usage
• bring local press for coverage
